Narrative Writing Category 1 & 2 

Rules and Regulations

  • Entries must be original and student’s own work. Any evidence of plagiarism will disqualify the entry.
  • Any entry sent/short listed/awarded in any other competition, or published elsewhere is not accepted.
  • The author should present a disclaimer “It is my own work” in the final page of the document.
  • All entries should be submitted through the submit now link. No other means of submission will be valid.

How to write?

  • Only typed entries are accepted- not handwritten.
  • Add the word count to the top right of the first page. The title is not included in the word count. However, Glossary of terms or expressions is included in the word count.
  • Do not add cover or title pages.

  • Preferably use Times Roman font, 12pt, black with only single line space.
  • Number the pages in the centre at the bottom of the page
  • The file name should be the title of the story only, typed exactly the same as on the document, for example: Pride and Prejudice.
  • Inclusion of author name in the file title will result in disqualification of the entry.
  • Do not put Yesmindz entry/ Yesmindz story entry etc., in the file title.
  • For untitled pieces, save the document with the first line of the story instead.
  • Last date for submission: 12pm IST on 27th December, 2022.
  • Judge’s decision is final and no individual correspondence will be entertained.
  • Copyright of the content of the story stays with the author.
  • Any offensive or unofficial language used in the narrative will be disqualified from the competition without any intimation of the same
  • Only one entry from one student is allowed.
  • We disqualify entries if author is named or if the story is over the word limit.
  • Winners will be notified by email.
  • A prize-distribution event will be organized for the winners. Date for which will be announced on the website after the closing date of submissions.

Awards and Results:

  • FIRST : Prize and a winner certificate.
  • SECOND : Prize and runner up certificate.
  • Winners will also receive a commendation letter with a certificate of recognition of their skills endorsed by the judges.
  • First 10 best entries will receive commendation certificate and an enrolment discount for Yesmindz’ courses availed.

Criteria and Rubrics

Content & Organization:

  • Well-defined plot line, engaging, effective and creative.
  • Contains features of a fiction writing like description of settings, characters with convincing details.
  • Appropriate and logical sequencing of the events in the plot.

Language:

  • Sophisticated and context specific, relevant lexis that creates effect and engages the readers.
  • Appropriate sense of register and tone.
  • Even use of literary and technical devices for deliberate effect.
